Breathalyzer Care During the COVID-19 Pandemic

International best practice standards to minimize spread of the virus:

• Regularly clean your alcohol breathalyzers with an antimicrobial cleaner or disinfectant that does not contain alcohol.*
• Alcohol-based hand sanitizers should not be used by someone using or administering alcohol breathalyzers.* Instead, follow the Handwashing: Clean Hands Save Lives protocol outlined by the CDC.
• Use latex gloves when handling alcohol breathalyzers.
• Use a new, freshly opened mouthpiece for every test. Avoid touching the 'wet' end of used mouthpieces.
• Position yourself so that when you blow into the breathalyzer, your breath (which may contain coronavirus within droplets) travels away from others.

*These precautions are in place so that no outside source of alcohol can affect the test's outcome.
